The mother of Georgina Drinkwater has spoken following the inquest into her daughter’s death.

Pauline Tio, who gave evidence at the two-day hearing at Westminster Coroner’s Court, where an open verdict was returned, said her only daughter was “beautiful and intelligent”.

Ms Drinkwater, a 30-year-old mum of two daughters who was five-months pregnant with a third child, fell nearly 33 feet from the third floor of her balcony in Harrow Road, Queen’s Park, on February 23 2014.

Her boyfriend Robert Weldon was arrested for murder but was never charged because of lack of evidence.

However, during the inquest on April 5 and 6, Ms Tio and many of Ms Drinkwater’s friends said she suffered suffered mental and physical abuse at the hands of Mr Weldon, 26.

Greatly missed by her loved ones

Often referring to her daughter as 'Georgy', Mrs Tio said: “Georgina was a beautiful, intelligent, articulate, funny, kind, independent, loving daughter, mother, niece, cousin, friend and woman.

"She is greatly missed by her loved ones."

Ms Drinkwater and Mr Weldon had started dating in 2012 and when speaking in court Ms Tio said her daughter’s behaviour significantly changed after that. She told the coroner she witnessed the abuse and claimed on one occasion Mr Weldon branded her daughter a “f***ing cow” before taunting her about how quickly he slept with her after meeting.

The court was told that police were often called to the address to deal with domestic issues, and in her statement Ms Tio said “there was a failure to conduct a full risk assessment of Georgy’s vulnerability as a young pregnant mother” by police and social services.

And she said her daughter was hoping to make a fresh start on her own: “Prior to her death, Georgina told me that she was attempting to make plans to move back to West Hampstead where her family and friends who grew up with her are located, and to get away from him. Unfortunately, she never made it.”

Mr Weldon told the court that Ms Drinkwater fell after they rowed and she attempted to climb over to the second floor balcony.

He said the coroners court: “We wanted to be together as a family. We went to counselling, it worked. We loved each other to bits.”

Total devastation

Ms Tio thanked those who came to her daughter’s aid after her fall, but said the grief has not subsided: “The loss of Georgina has been and continues to be totally devastating for family both in the UK and abroad.

“For myself, her mother I think of her each second of each day with each breath I take. Georgy was the love of my life and always will be.”
