The general election in Hounslow will be a battle between the five main parties, with no independents or smaller parties standing in either constituency.

The full list of candidates for Brentford & Isleworth and Feltham & Heston was published by Hounslow Council on Thursday (April 9), after the deadline for nominations passed.

Labour are favourites with bookmakers to win both seats, but the contest for Brentford & Isleworth, currently held by Conservative MP Mary Macleod, is widely predicted to be a close affair. The Green Party, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP are also fielding candidates in both constituencies.

At the last general election in 2010, 10 candidates stood for each seat, but the risk of losing their £500 deposit should they fail to secure at least 5% of the vote has clearly put outsiders off standing this time around.

Lawrence Audini had declared his intention to stand as an independent in Brentford & Isleworth, where Godson Azu said he would represent the All People's Party. But neither of their names appear on the list of nominations.

Mr Audini said he decided to pull out as he found it impossible to engage in a political debate in the area.

"There's no way for an independent candidate to confront the main parties in a public forum. There's one open hustings on April 14. All the others have either excluded independents or been cancelled," he told getwestlondon. "I wasn't in it to make a point but because I thought I had the best political argument. But if you can't get that political argument out you don't have a chance."

In 2010, there were three independent candidates across the two constituencies, along with a handful of minority parties including the British National Party (BNP), the The Christian Party and the Workers Revolution Party.
