Gas works which have been causing havoc on Hounslow 's roads are set to continue for another week.

National Grid began carrying out what it says are vital repairs to the gas mains network in Vicarage Farm Road, Hounslow, on Monday (December 7). It said the work was due to be completed next Tuesday (December 15).

Temporary lights have been in place at the junction with the A4 Great West Road, in Hounslow West, and Transport for London this morning reported the emergency works were causing tailbacks to the A312 Ossie Garvin Roundabout in Hayes.

One person complained on Twitter about traffic backing up from Osterley to the other side of Hounslow last night.

TfL responded to say the temporary lights should be removed by 2pm today, as they are no longer needed to continue the repairs.

A National Grid spokesman said: "We need to do this work to ensure people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and are doing what we can to complete it as soon as possible."
