After several stalled attempts to redevelop a largely derelict industrial yard on the Brentford an d Ealing border, plans could finally be moving in the right direction.

This Thursday (February 13) and Saturday (15) Notting Hill Housing will invite views on its latest proposals for the Reynard Mills Trading Estate, in Windmill Road, Brentford.

The site has been dogged by controversy ever since previous owners LP (Brentford) Ltd tried several times to gain planning permission for various amounts of flats and houses. The group’s final bid for 275 homes was rejected by Hounslow Council before going before a public inquiry in November 2012 which agreed it was an over-development of the 170,000 sq ft land.

Communities secretary Eric Pickles then threw out the appeal in March last year before LP agreed a purchase agreement with Notting Hill worth £20 million subject to planning permission being granted. The prospective new owners held a public drop-in session in November to outline how it saw the future for Reynard Mills and three months on wants to show how the plans are shaping up.

It says it wants to provide the local community with the opportunity to review and to give further feedback on the proposals before a planning application is submitted to Hounslow Council later this year.

Roger Arkell, Senior Planning Manager at Notting Hill Housing, commented: “We are pleased with the thoughtful and constructive feedback we have received so far during public consultation and our team has considered it carefully. We are working hard to deliver a development of the highest quality, which takes into account the feedback received, is consistent with planning guidance and that enhances the local community while bringing additional much needed homes to Brentford.”

Windmill Road Action Group which represents 400 residents, has consistently objected to the redevelopment of the site for various reasons including traffic congestion, lack of parking, and the shortage of school places and GP surgeries.

The drop-in sessions will take place at St Faith’s Church, also in Windmill Road, between 3-7pm on Thursday and noon-4pm on Saturday.

Notting Hill Housing encourages people with any questions or feedback to get in contact. It has set up a freephone number on  0800 046 1293 , a community e-mail address at  info@reynardmills.com  and a website at  www.reynardmills.com .
