Free WiFi is available in Hammersmith and Fulham town centres after the council struck a deal with telecoms company.

Arqiva has paid the council to install its network on the borough’s lampposts and will share any income with the council to spend on services for residents, meaning the taxpayer won’t have to pay for it.

Users should search for ‘_Free HF WiFi’ on their smart device in the list of available WiFi networks and then select it and connect. Registered users will get 30 minutes of free a day and can buy more time on a pay-as-you go basis. There is no time limit for accessing services on the council’s website.

“We hope residents and visitors will find the new service useful when they need a quick bit of information from the internet while out and about in the borough,” said Cllr Ben Coleman, H&F head of commercial revenue and resident satisfaction.

“We also hope that being able to access the council’s website free 24 hours a day will encourage residents to make use of the growing number of council services online, from paying bills to applying for a parking permit.”
