More than a dozen people were rescued from a burning building in Earl’s Court after a fire ripped through a hotel causing substantial damage.

Two people were plucked to safety from the roof of the four storey building in Trebovir Road by fire crews deploying their aerial ladder, after the flames tore into the building on Sunday evening (June 5).

More than 70 firefighters were at the scene to bring the “difficult” fire under control, with crew donning breathing apparatus to rescue another 12 people from the building. They also helped three people flee from a property next door.

They were called to the scene at 9.45pm and had the flames out shortly before 3am on Monday morning (June 6).

The whole of the second floor of the terraced building, three-quarters of the third floor, and entire mansard roof was damaged by fire.

Around 150 people were evacuated from the hotel and the buildings either side of it before the Brigade arrived.

Station manager Winston Douglas was at the scene, he said: “This was a serious fire and crews and worked very hard to stop the fire spreading.”

Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters from Kensington, Fulham, Paddington, Battersea, North Kensington, Hammersmith and Chelsea attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No one was injured.

The comes three months after an elderly woman died folllowing another Earl's Court fire.

And in May a man fled a burning building in Fulham before fire crews rescued cats from the property.
