Four men have been charged by police after a smash and grab raid on a jewellers in Piccadilly on Wednesday (August 3).

Four Flying Squad officers were injured during the arrest phase of the operation as a gang attempted to flee the scene on two mopeds.

Charlie Kavanagh, 25, of Hedingham Close, Islington N1 was charged with conspiracy to rob and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, while Stephen Hopkins, 29, was charged with conspiracy to rob and malicious wounding.

Meanwhile, James Symes, 30, of no fixed abode, and Johnny Kyriacou, 25, were both charged with conspiracy to rob.

All four of the men were remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Friday, (August 5).

The windows of the store were smashed in during the robbery when four men attempted to steal a quantity of jewellery, before Flying Squad officers moved in to arrest them.

Four men then attempted to flee the scene on two mopeds and a taser was discharged a number of times by Fying Squad officers.
