The trial of a former police marksman charged with murder has begun.

Anthony Long denies killing Hounslow man Azelle Rodney, who was shot dead by police in Edgware in 2005.

The trial started on Monday (June 8), and is expected to last four-and-a-half weeks.

The court said an order was in place preventing the naming of the court, the judge or any of the legal representatives in the trial.

Mr Rodney, 24, was killed when police stopped the car in which he was travelling, as they believed the occupants were on the way to rob a rival drugs gang.

Mr Long, formerly known only as E7, was charged with murder in July last year after a public inquiry had ruled there was 'no lawful justification' for killing Mr Rodney.
