A former MP has been sworn in as president of Feltham and Heston Conservatives Association.

Patrick Ground QC who served as MP between 1983 and 1992 formally took the reins of office at the Annual General Meeting on Friday (March 27).

The role of president is purely ceremonial and has traditionally been given to party members who have a long-standing service to the local party.

Chairman of Feltham and Heston Conservative Association, Paul Jabbal, said: “Patrick has been a great MP for this area and will make a great President of the Association.

"He is admired and respected by all and regularly attends local functions to keep in touch.

"I look forward to his wisdom, guidance and experience in the coming years."

Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Simon Nayyar added: “Patrick was a dedicated and tireless supporter of the constituents of Feltham and Heston in the years leading up to 1992.

"Patrick personified the hopes and aspirations of local people in Feltham and Heston and embodied the very best traditions of parliamentary service and duty.

"I hope to serve this constituency with the same energy and commitment if returned as the Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston on 7 May 2015."
