Former Chelsea FC doctor, Eva Carneiro says she received death threats upon leaving Stamford Bridge, after encountering criticism from the manager José Mourinho.

Mourinho criticised and dropped the 43-year-old from first team duties after she attended to a player on the pitch, during a match against Swansea in August 2015.

Following her departure in September 2015, her case against the club was settled outside of court in June this year when she reached a discrimination settlement with Mourinho and claimed constructive dismissal against Chelsea.

The club apologised "unreservedly" for the distress caused.

However, Carneiro, who now works at her own clinic in Harley Street in London, has revealed that following her departure, she was victim to abuse online.

She told The Telegraph: "Even though I don't have a presence on social media ... some of the threats of sexual violence and death threats make it through."

"They (the abusers) just seem to be faceless cowards and they should be answerable to legislation."

The doctor also said that not enough it being done to tackle sexism in football: "I think sexism is the least challenged form of discrimination.

"Anti-Semitic and other racist comments are widely condemned and I don't think that is the case (with sexism) and it begs the question what that leaves room for behind the scenes.

"It is widely accepted that football has a discrimination problem. I really do feel that way, but I think it is the least challenged form of discrimination."

Carneiro also spoke about how she was "stunned" by the objectification she faced at the beginning of her career: "As I sought specialist training in certain sports, male colleagues found that quite surprising.

"There was very much a dialogue of bringing attention to my gender or objectifying me in some way.

"They described that as a limit to my career progression in that direction."
