Football heroes helped net £3,300 at a fundraising night for seriously ill children.

Legendary Chelsea hard man Ron 'Chopper' Harris led a formidable line-up, also including ex-Spurs keeper Pat Jennings and former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty, at the Pope John Centre, in Heston.

They raised £3,300 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, which grants the wishes of children battling life-threatening conditions, at the event on February 28.

The greats of the game were brought together by organiser John Corbett for the evening, which included a raffle and an auction of football memorabilia.

The father-of-three, who lives in Wheatlands, Heston, said he had been inspired to do something for the charity after reading the heart-rending stories on its website.

He described the night as a "great success" and said the players were "brilliant".
