This CCTV footage shows the moment thieves use a portable cutter to break through a lock and steal a scooter parked in Westminster .

Sparks can be seen flying through the air as robbers brazenly steal the white Piaggio scooter parked in Shouldham Street.

The vehicle had been left on the road by its 53-year-old owner at 9.20am on February 9.

When he returned to it late that evening he found it had been stolen. Police did not give the precise moment the thieves struck.

The CCTV footage caught two scooters, one with a pillion passenger, stop near the Piaggio.

One of the drivers can be seen taking out the portable cutter and removing the lock, before the pillion passenger pushes the vehicle away.

All three suspects were seen wearing dark helmets and jackets.

Investigating officer, Detective Matt Carey from Westminster CID said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to this incident.

“The CCTV shows a number of people and vehicles passing the suspects as they stole the scooter”.
