Police have issued an anti-social behaviour dispersal order for the leisure centre in Harrow on July 31 ahead of a planned late-night foam party.

Some 1,000 people were expected at the free event at the leisure centre, which is also known as Byron Hall, and would have run on until 2am.

The order was issued after Marlborough Safer Neighbourhood team and the planning organisers held a joint meeting, and came to a joint decision to cancel the event to prevent any anti-social behaviour and disorder during the early hours.

The decision comes on the back of a previous event held at the leisure centre on June 6, which was closed down early as a result of anti-social behaviour and disorder.

The anti-social behaviour dispersal will run for 24 hours, meaning that there will be a policing response at the centre, with anyone who turns up at the event being turned away from the venue.

Sergeant Simon Fretwell, who runs the Marlborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "We are concerned about the short notice of the cancellation of this event.

"We are worried about the people who will turn up expecting the event to still be on.

"We don't want people to turn up drinking, causing anti-social behavior and causing residents problems, especially at the time it was scheduled to be held.

"My officers, along with quite a few of my resources, will be out in force dispersing people who are causing any anti-social behaviour or who are trying to get into the event."
