Fly-tipping in Southall: Angered resident say 'more needs to be done' after claims street was targeted 16 times in one day

The images images expose the plague of fly-tipping which is burdening residents of Southall.

Bin bags, boxes and a mattress can be seen dumped in Abbotts Road, scattered outside a number of west London homes on September 4.

The fly-tipping hot spot, according to Southall resident Arif Hussain, has been a problem for years and reporting it to Ealing Council has apparently made "no difference".

"It is absolutely disgusting," Mr Hussain said. "When will this picture change?

"I, just like other residents, am sick and tired of looking at the same old picture every week, every month, every year.

"Repeatedly reporting it has made no difference. Look at the 16 fly-tips which happened on one day."

The angered resident suggested that Ealing Council, who is aware of the issue, needs to do more to deter offenders targeting the area.

"More needs to be done to stop these people," he added. "Should I have to report [fly-tipping] every single day?

"Our councillors need to do more, we need someone to represent us by stepping forward and tackling this issue on our behalf."

According to Mr Hussain, one resident has had to spend the last few months not being able to sit in his front or rear garden "due to the stench" from the abandoned rubbish.

"Surely, no one should have to live next to a rotten stinking rubbish tip," he added.

According to the Council, "tough action" has been taken against local fly-tipping in recent months.

Since January, 23 fixed penalty notices have been issued for fly-tips and 13 for on-the-spot littering in Abbotts Road.

On top of this, a spokesman said the council has introduced twice weekly inspections and warning letters to businesses and tenants to tackle the issue in response to reports from local residents.

"Illegally dumped rubbish is not only dangerous and unsightly," a council spokesman said.

"Clearing fly-tips like this can cost council tax payers tens of thousands of pounds each time," the spokesman added.

"We always urge residents to dispose of waste in the proper manner to keep the borough's streets clean and tidy and avoid fines of hundreds, or even thousands of pounds."
