Parts of west London could be hit by floods as rain and high tides cause the banks of the River Thames to rise.

The Environment Agency issued a flood alert, meaning flooding is possible, on the Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.

The warning came into force on Tuesday (October 18) morning and could affect people in Chiswick , Twickenham and Richmond .

Among the locations listed which could potentially be affected by flooding include the Putney Embankment; Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green in Chisiwck; Ranelagh Drive in Twickenham; Friars Lane and Waters Lane in Richmond; and The Embankment at Twickenham.

Dozens of coastal areas across the country have been issued flood warnings and put on flood alerts.

At the end of last month, torrential rain put Uxbridge roads under water while homes in Harrow were also flooded after the downpours.
