Conservative parliamentary candidate Simon Nayyar has revealed the five schools in Heston which will benefit from noise-proofing from Heathrow Airport.

A total of £7.5 million of the £700 million compensation package announced by Heathrow earlier in the year will benefit about 3,400 schoolchildren in Heston if airport expansion in west London is given the go-ahead.

Schools benefitting from the double-glazing programme, estimated to cost £1.5m per school, are Berkeley Primary School, Heston Community School, Heston Primary School, The Rosary Catholic Primary School and Westbrook Primary School.

This has sealed Mr Nayyar's support for Heathrow and its bid to get a green light for a third runway.

The Airports Commission is due to announce its decision over the future of expansion in London at the end of May, at the earliest.

Mr Nayyar went out to deliver the news to voters in the constituency on Tuesday (April 21) and said: "I have been out with voters in Feltham & Heston and the take up with local people has been tremendous. People think it's great news."

The offer, which has been agreed in principle, depending on the outcome of Airport Commission's report, will improve the learning environment and experience for thousands of existing and future school children.

Mr Nayyar said: “This is great good news for young people who are studying in Feltham & Heston and their families. It shows Heathrow Airport is working hard to gain the trust of local communities.

"Every child deserves to get an excellent education in Feltham and Heston and this announcement is going to help a lot to achieve that.

"Wherever I go in the constituency, local people tell me they want to see Heathrow grow and expand.

"However, that strong local support for Heathrow needs to be properly balanced by the need to take early action on noise and emissions levels.

"Heathrow has done the right thing here: that's why I've decided to lend my support to their campaign for getting the green light for future growth from the Airports Commission.”

A Heathrow spokeswoman said: "We are grateful for the feedback we had to our initial proposal from Mr Nayyar and other local politicians requesting that we do more to compensate local residents.

"In February, Heathrow announced an improved package for noise insulation that could be worth over £700m.

"Last week, we confirmed to Mr Nayyar which schools in the constituency in which he is standing will be insulated as a result of this improved scheme he campaigned for."
