Four men who carried out a "frenzied" knife attack at a Bedfont supermarket have been convicted of attempted murder.

The quartet, two of whom are from Ealing, had set upon a 29-year-old man at Emerald Supermarket, in Staines Road, Bedfont , in the early hours of June 14 last year, the Old Bailey heard.

They punched him to the ground and stabbed him more than 15 times, in what police described as a "frenzied" attack, before leaving him for dead as they fled in a waiting car.

Some of the wounds penetrated his heart, lung and liver, and he only survived thanks to first aid provided by police officers and emergency surgery carried out in the street.

Mohamed Mohamed, 21, of Copley Close, Hanwell ; Zackirya Ibrahim, 19, of Chesham Terrace, Ealing ; Saad Sharif, 19, of no fixed address; and Hanad Mohamed, 19, also of no fixed address, were all convicted at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, January 19, of attempted murder.

Abdi Wahab Mohamed, 26, of Down Way, Northolt , who had driven them to and from the scene, was found guilty of causing section 18 grievous bodily harm.

All five men are due to be sentenced on Friday, January 22.

Police said the attack, which took place inside the shop, appeared to have been motivated by a previous dispute with the victim.

The emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30am that morning. Police officers, who arrived first, administered first aid before a doctor from London's Air Ambulance performed emergency surgery in the street.

The victim was taken to St Mary's Hospital , where he underwent further life-saving surgery before being discharged 10 days later.

All five defendants were arrested on June 17 by detectives from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command.
