You can get fit while performing good deeds, at a very different kind of gym which is opening in Hounslow.

Goodgym, which has some 1,500 members across its groups in London, Bristol and Bath, is launching in Hounslow soon.

Members run to and from locations where they perform physical tasks ranging from planting a community garden to decorating a local youth centre.

Their reward will be two-fold, as the exercise helps them cultivate a toned physique while benefiting from a warm glow inside.

You can take part in weekly group runs or be paired with a senior citizen to visit each week and keep them company, warding off the risk of social isolation.

GoodGym already has some 1,500 members across the south of England

Gym open to runners of all abilities

GoodGym was founded to harness all the energy being wasted on treadmills and exercise bikes across the country so that sweat could be expended for a good cause.

It's free to join and open to runners of all abilities, and the best thing is that it's completely free to get involved, though donations are welcomed.

Weekly runs will depart from Montague Public Hall, in Montague Road, Hounslow, every Monday, with the launch date yet to be confirmed

Runners are asked to meet at 6.45pm, and the group will depart at 7pm and return by 8.30pm.

Participants, who who need not register to take part, will be helping a local community organisation, and the total distance covered will be no more than 6km.

'GoodGym will encourage a great sense of community'

The new GoodGym branch was set up with the support of Hounslow Council and will be led by local trainer Gemma Malster.

She said: "GoodGym will encourage a great sense of community in Hounslow. It will give people a chance to get involved in running, creating personal achievements and help their local area all at once.

"I can't wait for people to come together with GoodGym and encourage others to get involved!"

The gym was made possible after more than 100 members signed up following an appeal on getwestlondon earlier this year.
