A fire that engulfed around two hectares of land in Neasden has been brought under control by firefighters.

The blaze broke out at Neasden Recreation Ground on Tuesday afternoon (August 4).

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "The brigade were called at 3.55pm and five fire engines are in attendance."

Firefighters used water backpacks and beaters to put out the fire and made steady progress.

The grass fire was brought under control at around 6pm.

The fire reportedly engulfed around two hectares of land which is roughly around the size of two football pitches.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and there are currently no reported casualties.

At the time, there were eastbound lane closures on the North Circular (A406) with tailbacks beyond Hanger Lane Gyratory.

Lanes re-opened just before 7pm.
