A man has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at Feltham Young Offenders Institute (FYOI).

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) treated a man for smoke inhalation at the prison, in Bedfont Road, Feltham, on Thursday (July 23).

The patient's age is unknown.

A spokesman for LAS said: "We were called at 12.16pm today to reports of a fire in Bedfont Road in Feltham.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including the hazardous area response team and they arrived within eight minutes.

"We treated a man for smoke inhalation and he was taken to hospital."

Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) were also called to reports of a raised fire alarm at around 12.04pm.

A LFB spokesman said "there was an incident - one person was involved."

Getwestlondon were alerted by a member of the public who spotted two fire engines going into the Feltham prison.
