Most of west London's Labour MPs voted against triggering Article 50 in a last ditch attempt to halt Brexit.

MPs voted last night (Thursday February 8) as to whether the process can begin for Prime Minister Theresa May to begin Brexit negotiations .

All of west London's Conservative MPs voted to trigger Article 50 and greeted the Speaker's announcement in the House of Commons with thunderous cheers.

Foreign Secretary and Uxbridge and South Ruislip MP, Boris Johnson, dubbed the moment "absolutely momentous".

However, out of the 18 west London MPs, 8 of the Labour MPs voted against the notion.

Only four Labour MPs from west London chose not to rebel against Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's pleas to unite and opt for Article 50 - Seema Malhotra, Gareth Thomas, Barry Gardiner and John McDonnell . Rupa Huq MP has said she will vote against Article 50

During the announcement, Steve Pound shouted "suicide" and Rupa Huq wrote on social media: "I will never vote for anything against the national interest or anything that will damage the prosperity and security of my constituency."

Many of west London's Labour MPs voted in support of the overwhelming majority of Londoners who chose to remain in the European Union referendum in May last year.

Britain is closer to the leaving the EU after 494 backed May, giving the Prime Minister permission to begin Britain's two-year exit.
