Fidget spinners are the latest craze to have hit classrooms and offices across the UK and America.

The gadgets come in various shapes and colours and the hand held gadgets are supposed to stop people getting distracted.

They move in an aesthetically pleasing way that is helpful in the reduction of anxiety.

They're called fidget spinners because, well they spin, but the distraction of the movements in your hand can prevent certain fidgets in some people.

It is also believed that they can help people with special educational needs, such as autism and ADHD to concentrate in the classroom.

However, as is often the way with these crazes, many people are sceptical and many schools are now banning them.

But why are schools banning a gadget with these apparent benefits?

The schools are claiming that the spinners actually cause more of a distraction than a benefit to the majority of students and it's easy to see the possibility of this.

For those who don't have one of the spinners the whirring and rapid movements could easily take attention away from teachers or their work.

Some reports in America even suggest that they could cause more of a distraction than benefit to people with ADHD, despite the claims that they help those with the condition.
