A much-loved free sporting event is in desperate need of a new sponsor if it is to continue running.

The popularity of Super Saturday of Sport in Chiswick , which last year was hosted by Clare Balding , has grown since it first started in 2013, but help is now needed to fund it for it to keep on going.

Chiswick resident and organiser, Kirsten Lonsdale, has said the search is on to find a sponsor to help cover costs of running the event in Turnham Green on July 8 this year.

Mrs Lonsdale said: "I have already started taking enquiries and bookings from sports clubs and businesses who want to be involved again - so the pressure is on to cover my costs.

“It really has been a privilege to organise the events for the last five years and see how much west London has embraced it.

"I think its time to call for help so I can continue to improve Super Saturday and deal with the 70 suppliers involved with the day.”

More than 8,000 people descended on Turnham Green last year where the festival of sports was hosted by BBC broadcaster and presenter, Clare Balding.

The event aims to have something for everyone from football, boxing and rugby to tai chi, freerunning and skateboarding.

This year will also see a community committee formed to help with increased workload of putting together the growing event.

In previous years local businesses and Hounslow Council have supported the event.

It was started up to inspire people of all ages to discover their passion for sports.

The event will once again create a food and small business village on the side to give small start-ups a direct promotional platform.
