A meeting looking at ways of tackling youth re-offending in London will be broadcast live via webcam tomorrow (January 8).

Among those whose opinions will be sought during the London Assembly meeting is Glenn Knight, the governor of Feltham Young Offenders Institution (YOI). The meeting, which takes place at 10am at City Hall, will look at what more the London mayor can do to reduce the number of youth recidivists.

It will see the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee assess the nature and extent of youth reoffending in the city and examine the strategies and programmes that the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and partners have put in place to deal with it.

During the meeting, which is open to members of the public, the committee will also discuss the impact of the now disbanded resettlement regime based at Feltham YOI, and current programmes in place for young offenders leaving custody.

In 2010, Boris Johnson visited Feltham YOI to praise a scheme aimed at reducing reoffending rates.
