Police have stepped up patrols in the aftermath of the shocking shooting of a teenager in Feltham on Tuesday (May 31) night.

A high police presence in and around Southern Avenue, Feltham , has been rolled out by senior cops in Hounslow to provide some much needed reassurance to residents living in the area.

Hounslow’s chief inspector Wayne Matthews said: “At a local level, we have increased patrols in the immediate area to reassure local residents and also allow the capture of additional information.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”

Officers including armed police, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended to calls of a male suffering a gunshot injury just after 9pm.

He was rushed as priority to a major trauma centre in west London where he remains in a stable condition.

Working with local police to bring calm in the community is ‘deeply shocked’ MP for Feltham Seema Malhotra.

The MP, who is urging people to support the police in the investigation, will be doing everything possible to stamp out gun crime in the community.

Ms Malhotra said: “Everyone in our area will be deeply shocked at this rare shooting incident and devastated that this has happened in our community.

“Our thoughts are with the victim and their family.

“I grew up in Feltham and am proud of our strong community. I would urge anyone who has any relevant information to contact the police as soon as possible.

“I will be working with the police to ensure they have the support they need find the perpetrator and do everything possible to stamp out gun crime in our community.”

The community woke up to hear the frightening news of a shooting on their doorstep, which according to reports on social media took place at the Waterloo Estate, locally known as the Yellow Brick Estate on Southern Avenue.

It has raised increased concerns over weapons on the streets following a recent spate of stabbings in the borough , and now in the wake of the shooting.

Eddie Menday of Feltham who lives a short stroll from where the incident took place, said: “I was most concerned at the news of a shooting in Feltham and that such an incident should take place on the usually quiet streets of our town.

“Such lawlessness must be stamped out and I pity the police in a most difficult situation.

“The full force of the law must be applied to those who are found to be carrying arms whether guns or knives.”

Commenting on Getwestlondon's Facebook in response to the shooting, Marina Sharma, wrote: “When will this end stabbing and shooting each other.

“Hope the boy recovers and they get whoever is responsible. Scary to think that someone is still loose in the area with a gun!”
