A father who was out shopping with his seven-year-old was stabbed to death in a street in Wealdstone, a court has heard.

Mohamed Al-Zufairi, 34, was allegedly attacked in Wealdstone High Street, in north west London, by 27-year-old Abraham Omotoso amid a "history of ill-feeling" between their families, the court was told.

He suffered a stab wound to the heart and died the next day, the Old Bailey heard on Tuesday August 8.

Prosecutor Alan Kent QC told jurors Omotoso had spotted the victim walking with his child as he drove past in a borrowed Range Rover on February 27.

The defendant did a U-turn and went past him again, pulling up close then driving off to park a few streets away.

He got out of the car and returned, possibly to get a knife, before going back to the High Street where he has seen Mr Al-Zufairi and his daughter, jurors were told.

Mohamed-Al-Zufairi died of a stab wound to the heart

When Mr Al-Zufairi reached a Poundland shop, his daughter went inside while he waited outside, the court heard.

Mr Kent said: "This defendant approached him and something happened between these two men that led to this defendant stabbing Mohamed Al-Zufairi on the left hand side of his chest."

Afterwards, the defendant ran back to the Range Rover and drove off, jurors were told.

The following afternoon, Omotoso went to Gatwick airport to buy a one-way ticket to Lagos in Nigeria.

Mr Kent said: "The staff were suspicious of him, a lone traveller, paying cash for a one-way ticket with limited baggage and the authorities were called."

When police arrived, he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

In police interview, he was shown a CCTV picture of the killer wearing a distinctive Parka jacket with a hood up and he said: "It's not me".

Officers tracked down images of the defendant in the days before the murder and found him wearing an identical jacket in three separate CCTV clips.

On the motive for the killing, Mr Kent said: "There was a history of ill feeling between the defendant and his family and Mohamed Al-Zufairi's family on the other side, not Mohamed Al-Zufairi himself but his brothers.

"So there is a history between them."

Omotoso, from Wealdstone, denies murder.

The prosecutor told jurors he would claim to be acting in self defence.

The trial continues.
