Families living on an estate in Hanworth were thrilled to attend the official opening of a community pocket farm over the weekend.

The Garden of Imagination was declared open at the Butts Farm estate by cabinet member for communities economic development councillor Sue Sampson on Sunday (March 29).

Residents on the estate were also joined by Hanworth councillors Candice Atterton and Samia Chaudhary, as well as Feltham & Heston MP Seema Malhotra.

Ms Sampson said: "This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when the community pulls together.

"I have been behind this project from the start when negotiations started over the use of this derelict piece of land. So to see how this area has been transformed is absolutely amazing and a real credit to all involved.

"I particularly loved the chicken compound and the Memorial Garden where trees each have a memorial plaque.

"I want to thank the Cathja project and the formidable Rin Roche for producing all the plaques and a personal thank you from me for the plaque dedicated to my murdered sister who was a victim of Domestic Violence."

A heart-shaped flower bed planted by children in the community could be seen sprouting through while other bulbs which had been planted around the parks trees were also beginning to blossom.

Rin Roche, chair of Butts Farm Working Together Group, added: "The kids designed a heart shape which we tried to execute as best as we could in our newly inaugurated Garden of Imagination on our estate at Butts Farm.

"The flower bed is just one part of the new park funded by the community and the Mayor of London Pocket Park grant.

"Our sincere thanks to Taylor's for their donation (of bulbs) as its made such a difference to the colour and vibrancy - we'd welcome any donations for other plants we can add to the park!"
