Motorists are warned to expect delays in Harrow as essential gas repair works are underway.

Engineers from National Grid will be attempting to fix a gas leak over 10 days in Uxbridge Road in Harrow Weald.

This means the roadworks will impact people during the first May Bank Holiday getaway.

Work began on the busy stretch of road on Monday (April 24) and is scheduled to continue until Wednesday next week (May 3).

According to the National Grid website, the Uxbridge Road footpath outside 155 has been closed.

"We are carrying out essential gas repair works," the website stated.

"This is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers."

If you have a safety concern about equipment such as barriers, signs or cones call a member of the National Grid team on 0800 096 5678.

If you can smell gas call 0800 111 999.
