A public exhibition explaining the full impact of gas mains replacement works, due to start next year, will be held.

The National Grid is inviting people to find out more about the work on King’s Road in Chelsea, which is due to begin in February.

Aging metallic gas mains will be replaced with tough new durable pipes, but work will result in major road works on the famous road.

For the first phase of work, which will last approximately eight months, King’s Road will be made into a one-way road eastbound, between Stanley Bridge and Gunter Grove.

The public exhibitions will give the local community the chance to meet the project team, see detailed plans and ask questions.

They take place at Chelsea Old Town Hall, King’s Road, SW3 5EE, on October 7 between 12pm and 8pm, and at the Vialli Suite, Chelsea Football Club, Stamford Bridge, Fulham Road, SW6 1HS, on October 15 between 12pm and 8pm.

National Grid engineering manager Stuart Donaldson said: “Our work will help ensure local homes and businesses keep on enjoying safe and reliable energy supplies. This work will help support the capital’s growth and also mean less disruption caused by having to repair ageing gas mains.”

He added: “All shops and businesses will remain open for business as usual. By carefully planning the project and using innovative technology we hope to ensure our work has as little impact as possible on residents and road users.

“I’d like to encourage local residents to come and meet us at one of our exhibitions where they can find out more about the work.”
