An ex-convict has been told he must return to prison after screaming racially aggravated abuse.

Philip Johnston was staying in a hostel for ex-offenders, in Lillie Road, Fulham, when he launched into a rant at two members of staff on Wednesday (August 12).

He called staff “black c***s” and told them to “go back where you come from”. He also told a member of staff: “Watch it, I’m coming back for you.”

His defence counsel said Johnston was having difficulties adjusting to life outside of prison and was mortified by his actions.

The defendant apologised during his police interview and again through his counsel at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on Friday (August 14).

But as the 60-year-old had been released into the hostel on licence he was told he would be returning to prison

He was given a nominal 28-days sentence for the offence.
