Extra doctor appointments are available to west Londoners in the lead up to Christmas.

Doctors' surgeries in Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Queen’s Park and Paddington, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow and Ealing have extended their opening hours for residents to cope with the winter surge.

New Monday to Friday and weekend opening hours mean GP practices across west London are staying open until 8pm.

Residents can book these additional appointments by calling their GP practice or NHS 111, when their own practice is closed.

Additional appointments on Christmas Day, bank holidays and New Year are to be announced shortly.

Residents can access these appointments via their own GP practice or a nearby GP surgery in their area.

Dr Neville Purssell, clinical lead for primary care for the North West London Collaboration of Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: "Our aim is to ensure that individuals such as carers, parents and people with work commitments have faster access to a GP or nurse, more hours a day.

"Timely access to GP services is a top concern when people are asked about the NHS.

"Offering evening, weekend and bank holiday appointments helps to tackle this issue."
