Disruption could last for seven days as engineers carry out repairs following a burst water main near Euston station.

The road remains closed in Eversholt Street between Phoenix Road and Grafton Place, on Saturday (October 28), while Thames Water work around the clock to fix the problem.

Workmen have been on site digging down to reach the 16-inch pipe, buried 1.3 metres underneath the road.

The water giant was first alerted to the incident at 4am on Friday (October 27).

The company said the worst case scenario could mean work could take up to seven days to complete the repair but they said they believe the work will be finished before then.

Customer representatives are on site to help with any enquiries from the public.

Meanwhile flooding at Euston Station has been cleared and caused only minor delays for commuters on Friday.

Residents were evacuated from the area after the floods but Thames Water has said water supplies were "largely unaffected."

A spokesman for Thames Water said: “We’ve been on site since the early hours of Friday morning, and engineers are now digging down to repair the pipe.

The spokesman added: “Due to the depth the pipe is buried, it’s a complex repair but we’ll be working around the clock to fix it as soon as possible, and we’re sorry to anyone affected by the incident.”

Due to the depth of the pipe it takes a little longer to reach and soundproofing barriers were put in place to keep noise impact to a minimum.
