An "emergency protest" is due to be held at Parliament Square this evening in a last attempt to persuade MP's to vote against Syrian air strikes.

The Stop the War Coalition campaign group has set up a Facebook event as Prime Minister David Cameron's called for a parliamentary debate tomorrow.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: "We are definitely going ahead with the protest this evening.

"We will do whatever we can to raise awareness of the insanity of it all.

"Other countries have found it to be fruitless carrying out air strikes."

Mr Cameron said the House of Commons diary will be cleared for a vote to go ahead after Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn confirmed a free vote for Labour MP's.

The Prime Minister has come under criticism from Labour MP's for not holding a full two day debate.

A spokesman for the Labour leader said: "The Prime Minister should stop the rush to war to allow a full discussion of the issues in Parliament.

"Matters of national security are far too important to be bulldozed through the House of Commons for political convenience."

Mr Cameron said: "The decision to take military action is one of the most serious a Prime Minister can make."

Over 6000 have expressed their interest in the protest tonight, with speakers at the rally including Labour MP Richard Burgon and Birmingham's Stop the War Coalition leader Salma Yaqoob.

Earlier this week, Mr Burgon tweeted:

The campaign group told GetwestLondon that around 43 000 people have already sent emails to Labour MP's urging them to vote against the decision, with more to come.

They said: "It's been clear from instinct and common sense, a decade and a half of bombing in middle east has not solved any problems."
