A little girl has miraculously survived after it is thought she fell onto the tracks at Hammersmith tube station this afternoon.

The young child thought to be 11-years-old was taken to St Mary's Hospital as a priority with head and arm injuries.

The Westbound platform at Hammersmith Tube station was closed after emergency services attended to the young girl who was injured but conscious and communicating with paramedics on the platform.

Emergency services were called to the station at 3:24pm after the incident. The Air Ambulance helicopter landed on the lawn of nearby St Paul's Church and a medic was seen running into the station.

A shocked witness who did not want to be named said: "It was a young woman. A girl. She's lying on the platform. I'm really shocked."

In an unrelated incident an elderly man collapsed and was lying on the ground in the upper atrium area of the station. He was also attended to by paramedics.

A body bag was later seen to be carried out of the station and loaded into a waiting ambulance.

Meanwhile TfL released a statement saying: "Severe delays between Earl's Court and Richmond / Ealing Broadway and MINOR DELAYS on rest of the line due to an earlier customer incident at Hammersmith. Tickets are being accepted on local buses and South West Trains. Also, westbound District and Piccadilly line trains are not calling at Hammersmith."
