An elderly couple escaped a fire which tore through two floors of a house in Kingsbury , early on Tuesday (Nov 10) morning.

The pair managed to leave the property on Sherborne Gardens before firefighters from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived at the scene.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended and treated both people for shock.

Four fire engines from Stanmore and Hendon fire stations were sent to the scene where firefighters tackled the blaze, which had damaged the entire ground floor of the property and part of the first floor.

The brigade were called at 6.15am and the fire was under control shortly after 7am.

A spokesperson for the LFB said: "Two elderly people escaped a fire at a house on Sherborne Gardens in Kingsbury, early this morning.

"The pair left the property before the arrival of the Brigade and were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service for shock.

"The whole of the ground floor and part of the first floor was damaged by fire."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
