A 22-year-old has been jailed for dangerous driving after speeding at 90mph down the WRONG side of the road in Ruislip.

Luke Esprit of Dabbs Hill Lane in Northolt was given an eight-month prison sentence at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday.

He previously pleaded guilty in September to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to stop for the police.

He was later identified by police following a high speed pursuit on May 3 and handed himself in a few days after the incident.

The force has since branded his actions "appalling", stressing the 22-year-old showed "sheer disregard" for the lives of other road users.

At around 2.30pm, Esprit, who was accompanied by another man, was identified by a marked police car in Eastcote Lane North driving dangerously at speed.

At the time, Esprit was driving while disqualified and using his girlfriend's car - a white Audi A3.

The police car turned on its blue flashing lights and siren to signal Esprit to stop, but the Audi tried to get away - even mounting a pedestrian kerb to escape the police car.

Esprit then accelerated and drove at around 90mph into the opposite carriageway of Field End Road, a busy road in Ruislip.

Officers were unable to pursue the Audi at the time due to the extreme danger Esprit presented to the lives of the public, the police and himself, said the Met Police.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Bempton Drive, Ruislip. A detailed investigation identified Esprit to be the driver and enquiries to trace him then followed.

On May 7, Esprit handed himself in at Uxbridge police station where he was arrested and later charged in June.

Sergeant Liam Moore said: "The sheer disregard Esprit has shown to the lives of other road users is appalling and there is no doubt that his actions could have caused significant injuries or even death. Esprit will now commence his jail term and will have to face the consequences of his actions.

"Our commitment to protecting all road users and bringing to justice those who commit driving offences remains resolute and we will pursue those intent on blighting the community with their dangerous actions."
