Eggheads star CJ de Mooi has been arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of murder, police have confirmed.

The 46-year-old, whose real name is Joseph Connagh, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday (September 22) following the arrest.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told getwestlondon: "A man was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday 21 September on a European Arrest Warrant issued in Netherlands in relation to an allegation of murder."

Mr Connagh, who lives in Monmouthshire, reportedly wrote in his autobiography that he punched a man who approached him and his wife with a knife in Amsterdam before throwing him into a canal.

He wrote: "He caught me on the wrong day and I just snapped.

"I fully suspect I killed him."

Mr Connagh was earlier this year removed from the BBC Two show's line up when the BBC said they needed to "refresh their line up" and find two new eggheads for the quiz show.

Shortly after, the television quiz star wrote on social media: "I'm leaving Eggheads for my acting future in Cape Town.

"I'm so grateful for all the show has given me but must try this now."

He became a panellist on the programme which involves five quiz champions competing as a team against individuals.
