Ealing Council's Cabinet has agreed plans for Ealing Town Hall, which will see a hotel built on the site as part of a 18-month refurbishment before a 245 year lease begins.

As part of the plans, the council will retain the east wing of the building for civic use, but part of the west wing will be used as a boutique hotel.

It is hoped by the council that work will start on the refurbishment in mid-2017, before re-opening in early 2019.

During the refurbishment, the Town Hall would be closed and services moved to other buildings.

Victoria Hall can be used 10 times a year

The hotel would come with a restaurant, health and fitness centre, fourth floor roof terrace and ground level cocktail bar with bistro leading out to Dickens Yard.

It has been promised that the west wing's Victoria Hall - which the council would only be given free use of 10 time a year - and council chamber would be preserved following the refurbishment, as will the building frontage.

Decided at the council's cabinet meeting on July 12 (Tuesday), they approved Mastercraft as its preferred business partner for the multi-million pound makeover.

The agreement is subject to being called in by the Mayor of London.

It is not the only controversial decision being made at the council, with Ealing Library also set to be downsized and moved above Primark in a move which could see a loss of 70% of the books.
