An Ealing secretary accused of pocketing over £186,000 from a school she worked at failed to show in court this week because she "was not aware" of the hearing.

Valerie Barber, of Glenfield Terrace, is charged with one count of fraud by false representation and was due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday (October 13) for a plea and case management hearing.

But a court spokesman said she did not attend because she was not aware of the hearing, which has now been adjourned to November 3.

The 56-year-old is alleged to have referenced her own bank account to parents at Pembridge Hall School, in Notting Hill, in a bid to collect their annual fees of £19,620 for each child to attend.

Allegedly, Barber made a total of £186,392 from December 2010 to May 2014.
