A pub owner has described a fire which left her venue out of action for weeks as "heartbreaking" but hopes it will be reopened on Friday (January 20).

Co-owner and director of The New Inn, Caroline Comiskey, said she was awoken at 2.50am on January 4 to her neighbour shouting her name.

She and her husband, Paschal, who have owned the pub since moving from Isleworth 13 years ago, grabbed their cat and dog and escaped.

The fire started in a shed behind the property.

The New Inn was damaged by the fire

The fire made its way to the kitchen and damaged it, also causing smoke damage to the pub floor and the restaurant.

Ms Comiskey said: "We hope it will be open on Friday (January 20) for drinks but another three weeks for food.

"It started outside the property.

"My neighbour Paul was out in the middle of the street shouting.

"He phoned the fire brigade at 2.50am then when he got outside he was calling our names, there was panic in his voice.

"I grabbed the dog, grabbed the cat and as we were going down the stairs the fire alarm did go off.

"We all got out of the building, then we saw the flames going out of the building.

"We were very lucky to get out.

"We have had this business for 13 years. We live above the pub.

"It is heartbreaking. What has been amazing is the amount of support from the community here.

"People have offered to organise dinners, people have bought in flowers. They all just want us to reopen so it is heartbreaking."

The fire happened days after another pub blaze in Ealing .

Six people had to be rescued as ten fire engines and 72 firefighters battled the blaze at the pub in High Street in the early hours of Sunday, January 1, at the Aeronaut pub in Acton .
