An Ealing police officer who sent malicious texts and social media messages to his victim has avoided a jail sentence.

The Metropolitan Police officer PC Matthew Holloway, 27, changed his plea to guilty during a court appearance on Tuesday (June 28) at Southwark Crown Court.

The police officer was given a three year conditional discharge and made to pay £1,200 in costs and £500 compensation.

Holloway was arrested on June 25 2015 for harassment, but his victim later withdrew their statement.

However the content of his messages via text and social media was considered threatening and therefore the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charge against him.

Holloway was charged with malicious communications in November last year.

On January 19 2016, he pleaded not guilty during an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

However a change of heart saw him enter a guilty plea at his latest court appearance on June 28.

The officer will remain on restricted duties.

A misconduct process is also soon to take place.

Earlier this month another police officer attached to the Hounslow borough, Michael Graham, was jailed for 16 years for multiple rape charges.
