Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College has welcomed a new Principal and Chief Executive.

Garry Phillips has taken over from outgoing interim Principal Elaine McMahon CBE, and joins from New College Telford. He has worked in further education for 20 years and has previously worked in five other colleges across the country.

Chair of Governors Sarah Dhanda said: "I am looking forward to working with Garry to take the College forward in its next stage of development. We have an exciting and challenging opportunity ahead to build on the College's strengths and help many more learners into employment or further study.

"The College has been fortunate to have had the input of Dr. Elaine McMahon CBE as Interim Principal for the past six months. She has achieved a great deal in a short time for which the board are very grateful."

Mr Phillips said he was keen to ensure students receive the skills, training, development and education they need to achieve their ambitions.

He added: "It is an exciting time to be joining the College and I am looking forward to working with colleagues and the community. The College has its sights firmly set on preparing students for the world of work and Higher Education. Despite high youth unemployment, the time is right for the College to seek and develop a truly 'two-way street' using the flexibility provided by government to respond to employers' needs, and to ensure students leave the College ready for work with the skills, ethos, attributes and experience employers are after, while making a positive social and economic contribution."

Mr Phillips is a member of the Education Training Foundation's expert panel for Leadership, Management & Governance and on the Association of Colleges 14-19 portfolio group.
