Ealing could benefit from more than £1 million of investment if a bid to become the London Borough of Culture 2019 is successful.

The Mayor of London's competition will showcase “the best of arts and culture in London” and is an “exciting opportunity to celebrate Ealing as a great place to live, work, study and enjoy,” according to the council .

Winning would bring more than £1m of investment to transform the borough's cultural landscape.

The bid will be submitted on December 1 and the winner will be announced in February 2018.

Since the competition was launched, Ealing Arts Forum, which represents arts groups, venues and communities, has been “key in discussing and developing ideas”.

Ahead of the bid deadline, these ideas will be shaped into a plan for how Ealing would use the prize money to showcase the local arts to leave a lasting legacy for the future of culture in the borough.

Ealing residents are being encouraged to show their support for the 2019 bid for Borough of Culture and fill in a short survey .

The results will help develop the bid and also the council’s longer term planning for Ealing Arts and Culture Strategy 2018-2023.

Ealing Council leader Julian Bell said the borough “has a lot to offer and can win” Sadiq Khan's competition for 2019.

He said: “We’re looking forward to what the people of Ealing will bring to build our Borough of Culture 2019 bid."

“Ealing has a lot to offer with many cultures and backgrounds being celebrated," he added.

“We need to combine everyone’s ideas together to make sure we have the best chance of winning over £1 million.

“Ealing knows how to celebrate people and places, and reveal the value of culture in bringing everyone together to strengthen our community.
