Children aged seven to 12 years old are being invited to take part in two music programmes designed to improve musicality, develop skills and boost confidence.

Ealing Music Service’s Big Sing and Big Play will take place on Saturday afternoons, culminating in a joint special performance for family and friends on July 9 next year at Greenford Community Centre.

Children in the Big Sing will learn to sing together as a choir in a number of different musical styles.

Meanwhile, youngsters learning brass, woodwind and string instruments between grades one and three standard are invited to take part in the Big Play.

Sammy Willis, eight, took part last year. His mother, Anna Willis, said: “Sammy was really proud and excited at the end of the first Big Play, especially when all the families came to hear them play.

“Practising and playing cooperatively in a large group is very different to playing on your own. Sammy found it very rewarding and is keen to come back for more.”

The Big Sing runs on November 14 this year, and then on January 16, March 5, April 23 and May 28 next year between 1pm and 5pm.

The Big Play takes place on October 3 and December 5 this year, and on February 6, March 12 and May 21 next year, also between 1pm and 5pm.

The courses cost £30, with a 50% discount for children who receive free school meals. All places will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Councillor Binda Rai, Ealing Council cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We have some very talented children in Ealing and these sessions are a wonderful way for them to come together and share the joy of making music.

“Children don’t have to be part of any other Ealing Music Service programme to take part; they just need to live in the borough and have an interest in music.”
