UKIP has pulled out of one of the UK's most marginal seats to support the Conservatives over Brexit.

The party has confirmed it will not run for the Ealing Central and Acton seat to help Tory candidate Joy Morrissey.

Labour's Rupa Huq won the race in 2015 by 274 votes, ahead of Conservative challenger Angie Bray.

UKIP said it did not wish to stand in the way of Mrs Morrissey, because it believes the interests of Brexit are better served under the Tories.

The Green Party has already pulled out of the race so it can boost the chances of Dr Huq.

Senior Lib Dem figure Sir Vince Cable also said he would "find it hard" to vote against Dr Huq, despite the campaign of fellow party member Jon Ball for the seat.

Mrs Morrissey said: "This will focus the campaign on the differences between the three major parties.

"I want to represent all constituents and will be campaigning tirelessly for each vote."

Dr Huq previously voted against Article 50.

In a statement, Dr Huq said: "UKIP said quite early on that they would not be standing a candidate as they have a Brexiteer in my Tory opponent so do not need one.

"The party and its stance as well as the Conservatives with their reckless rush to a hard Brexit are wholly unsuited to a seat where 72% voted to remain and want scrutiny of the article 50 process now that it is underway."
