A police incident in Ealing Broadway which turned out to be "not suspicious" was the most read story on Get West London this week.

Police were called to the Ealing Broadway shopping centre following reports of a suspicious package on Thursday (May 25).

The shopping centre had to be evacuated, however it was soon determined the package was "non-suspicious" and the cordons were lifted.

In other news a teenage girl was left with "life-changing injuries" following a crash in Yeading and she was rushed to hospital.

A 63-year-old man was hit and killed by a train at Rayners Lane station and a rogue landlord was convicted after he was caught cramming 31 people into a "Slumdog Millionaire-esque" shanty home.

Ealing Broadway police incident

Police were called to Ealing Broadway shopping centre following reports of a "suspicious package" on Thursday (May 25).

The shopping centre was evacuated and police officers swarmed in and multiple police vehicles were sent to the scene.

Many worried people took to Twitter claiming a gunman was on the loose - causing confusion and additional worry in the area.

However the suspect package turned out not be suspect and police addressed the social media reports that a man was seen with a gun in Primark as being completely untrue.

Shoppers spilled onto the High Street after an evacuation at Ealing Broadway

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Police were called to Ealing Broadway to reports of a suspicious package at 12.50pm. Specialist units attended. The incident has now been stood down."

Ealing Metropolitan Police tweeted that "everything is fine" after the cordons were lifted adding: "Thank you for your patience while we investigated."

Yeading serious collision

A teenager girl was left in a "serious but stable" condition in hospital following a crash in Yeading on Tuesday (May 23).

The crash happened in Willow Tree Lane and the girl, believed to be aged 15, was treated for a head injury and taken as a priority to a central London hospital.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Officers attended and found a female pedestrian in collision with a car.

"The driver of the car stopped at the scene."

Police believe the teenager's injuries "could possibly be life-changing."

Person dies after being hit by train at Rayners Lane

A person died after being struck by a train at Rayners Lane station on Wednesday (May 24).

The incident took place at around 9.30am, and police officers and paramedics were in attendance.

British Transport Police confirmed the victim was a 63-year-old man and that the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

Coroners are expected to open an inquest soon.

The station was closed for just more than an hour and services on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines were affected for several hours.

Rogue landlord who stuffed 31 people into four-bed house found guilty

A rogue landlord who crammed 31 people into a four-bedroom house in Wembley has been convicted.

Sanjay Shah stuffed tenants into appalling conditions and was discovered by Brent Council enforcement officers after they swooped on the property in Napier Road during a raid in July last year.

A woman was found living in a lean-to shed in the back garden, which had no lighting or heating and was made out of wood offcuts, pallets and tarpaulin.

Mr Shah, along with his sister, Harsha Shah and her daughter, Chandani Shah were pocketing around £112,000 a year from the tenants and were found guilty of breaching landlord licensing rules.

Jaydipkumar Valand, who collected the rent for the Shah family, pleaded guilty at the trial in December last year.

The four defendants will be sentenced at crown court at a later date.
