Confusion surrounds the future of the Dunkin' Donuts store in Hounslow amid mixed messages from the US food giant.

The cafe in High Street, Hounslow, closed earlier this year, less than two years after it was opened with great fanfare in summer 2014.

After customers took to Twitter to express their disappointment, the firm's UK twitter account suggested they may may not have to wait long for their confectionery fix.

"Sorry for any inconvenience, we do intend to reopen our Hounslow store under new management soon. Stay tuned for more info," it tweeted on Tuesday (May 3).

Dunkin' Donuts UK tweeted to suggest its Hounslow store may re-open soon, only for the firm's press office to dash customers' hopes

But when getwestlondon contacted the Dunkin' Donuts press office that same day it said there were currently no plans to reopen the branch.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our loyal guests, and we encourage them to visit one of our other Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in Greater London," added a company spokesman.

In July 2014, the Hounslow store became just the ninth UK branch to be opened by the iconic US eatery.

Should it have closed for good it would still have lasted significantly longer in the town centre than the coffee chain Harris + Hoole, which closed its Hounslow branch just months after opening it in 2014.

If you can't wait to get your doughnut fix, don't fret. There will be plenty of opportunities to fill that hole while helping The Children's Trust when National Doughnut Week gets underway on Saturday, May 7.
