An illuminated drummer led the winter lantern parade to get festivities off to a magical start in Feltham, lighting up the town centre.

Children from Victoria Junior School and the Highfield's Estate, walked from the school on Victoria Road, joined by a giant stilt walker and escorted by police and teaching staff to The Centre in Feltham.

Crowds joined the glowing procession, and light installations lit up the shopping centre, at the annual Winter's Night Carnival on Wednesday November 18.

Bringing the magic of the season to life, children from the The Edward Pauling Primary School choir and Reach Academy Glee club sang Read All About It; Somewhere Only We Know; and popular Christmas song Merry Christmas Everyone.

Megan Price, Hounslow Has Talent 2015 runner up , also sang Santa Baby and Circus Suburbia put on a spectacular Glow Show in Feltham library.

Schoolchildren and their families were joined by local councillors and The Centre management for the winter event.

Throughout the year children from a number of schools in the area including Victoria Junior School, Southville Junior School, Edward Pauling Primary and Reach Academy, together with Highfields residents, had worked with Feltham Arts Association and The Centre, Feltham to create the wonderful light installations and lanterns.

Lorraine Eggleton, manager at The Centre, Feltham, said: “This was a spectacular evening for all the family and anyone who joined in was in for a treat.

“We’ve put a lot of work into making this a terrific occasion and people of all ages absolutely loved it.

"Great efforts from the children, school staff, police, Feltham Arts and of course the families that supported them in the audience.

“Lights and lanterns always look wonderful at this time of year and once again it was a sparkling and exciting experience in the run up to Christmas.

"Considering the weather difficulties earlier in the day, it was a great night for everyone.”

A shorter lantern parade was held due to wet and windy weather conditions.
