A Harrow drug dealer caught with more than £100,000 of cocaine has been told by top judges he cannot complain about his jail term.

Gobynathan Ponnusamy was challenging a 10 year sentence handed to him last year after he admitted drug offences, with his lawyers claiming it as “too tough”.

But during the Court of Appeal hearing on Friday (May 26), a judge said he had played a “leading role” in the operation and threw out the appeal.

Ponnusamy was on bail for cannabis dealing when police seized two kilograms of high-purity Class A drug from him.

The 33-year-old, of Burnt Oak, Broadway, was jailed at Harrow Crown Court in July after admitted conspiracy to supply class B drugs and supplying class A drugs.

He had initially been arrested on April 26 2015 by police investigating a cannabis-dealing ring, before being released on bail.

But he was arrested again on September 30 that same year when police seized the haul of cocaine.

The court was told had been Ponnusamy had been involved with dealing the drug since June and was in contact with a criminal in Albania who was under investigation by the National Crime Agency.

His lawyers argued his jail term was over the top and said the crown court judge was wrong to find Ponnusamy was one of the main players in the drugs ring.

However, rejecting his appeal, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said the evidence in the case indicated he had a “leading role”.

Sitting with Lady Justice Sharp and Mr Justice Warby, she added: “There is nothing whatsoever in the argument that he did not play a leading role.”
