A Hillingdon police officer who narrowly missed a pedestrian while driving at nearly four times the legal alcohol limit has been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Service.

PC Aneel Achall was driving his own car in Ryefield Avenue, Hillingdon, on January 7 when he reversed onto a pavement at speed, narrowly missing a pedestrian before crashing into a parked van.

The off-duty officer failed to stop at the scene and drove off but was stopped by members of the public who detained him and called police.

He tested positive for alcohol at a roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

A second test in custody showed 137 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, nearly four times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

The former PC pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle on a road after consuming alcohol that exceeded the prescribed limit at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on July 19.

He was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months, a four-month curfew with electronic monitoring, had to complete 100 hours' unpaid work and was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £115 victim surcharge.

Achall was dismissed without notice from the Met after Assistant Commissioner Helen Ball found gross misconduct proven at a special hearing held on Monday (October 16).
